Hoodia FAQ's - Answers to common questions about african hoodia cactus
Is hoodia a drug?Hoodia is not a drug. Hoodia is now the market leading appetite suppressant now widely used in the US and around the world. Hoodoba and DEX-L10 are both certified products and are the standard by which real Hoodia is judged and are both products people have come to trust.
Hoodia Gordonii is actually a succulent and technically different from a cactus, it is also know by the name "Xhoba". It belongs in the succulent family of Asclepiadaceae along with stapelia, stephanotis and vinca. Hoodia is not really new, it has been used by the indigenous tribal people in South Africa as a natural appetite suppressant and thirst quencher during long hunting trips for generations. Hoodia Gordonii is its Latin botanical name. The plant grows wild in the harsh conditions of the Kalahari desert of Southern Africa.
Both Hoodia brands Hoodoba and Hoodia DEX-L10 are independently tested to assure the raw material is pure South African Hoodia Gordonii.

We have outlined here some tips to help you get the most of DEX-L10 Hoodia Gordonii. Getting Started with Hoodoba 1st Days Like most natural products it takes anywhere from 7-30 days for your body to get acclimated and feel the effects of Hoodoba. Luckily there is a way to jump-start the process. Depending on your body weight you can take up to 6 capsules per day or 3,000 mg to get you started quicker.
During trials it was found that individuals in the weight range of 180 to 250 pounds benefited most in the early days if they took 2 capsules or 1,000mg before lunch and 1 capsule or 500mg again before dinner during the 1st six (6) days of the program.
Participants immediately began to reduce their caloric intake without delay. You may wish to do the same and if in doubt slowly build up for the 1st few days of the program.
Hoodia Gordonii will quite literally go unnoticed, you simply do not have a burning desire to eat and in turn reduce your weight due to less calories consumed. Consuming fewer calories is the preferred way to a longer life and loss of weight. Weight will gradually decrease which is much more healthier than a rapid loss of weight. As you reduce your caloric intake you must be aware of how the body functions in order to gain the most weight loss. When the body reaches a point of where it is not getting enough calories you will actually stop losing weight and you may actually gain weight! Survival Mode What it means to you as you reduce calories to the point the body thinks it is starving your body’s survival mode will kick in which is kind of like hibernation. Normally the body will use 60-70% of the daily calories for continued body function, which is breathing, heart rate, temperature regulation, but that changes if you reduce calories below what the body needs. Your body will put itself into a state of hibernation for an extended period and when you eat the body will try to store as much as possible. When this occurs it means that the Hoodoba Hoodia has brought you to a point at which you must raise your metabolic rate. Raising the Metabolic Rate Turning the switch off As you reach the point of saturation in which your weight loss has declined or stopped there is only one way out of the weight loss trap and that is to increase your metabolic rate. In increasing your metabolic rate you are turning off your bodies’ natural hibernation mode and instructing your body that all is well and it needs to increase the calorie usage for normal functions back to 60-70% of calories consumed. Increasing the metabolic rate is actually quite easy.
If you normally walk one mile a day increase it to 2 mile. If you jog for 15 minutes add an extra 5 minutes. Any energy you expend will increase metabolic rate. The key is to continue for at least 7 days to turn off the “hibernation” switch. Only you know how much extra you can do safely to get your body back on the weight loss track. But once you have raised your metabolic rate your body will continue to “burn” through calorie as it did before.
Nutrition and Calorie Reduction Eating for Healthy Weight Loss As your desire for food dwindles and you find yourself eating less it is important to remember to eat well. If you do not really feel like eating but will munch on a donut or cupcake you may still lose weight because of total calorie reduction and an increased metabolism. This situation is extremely dangerous to your health, as your body is not getting the proper nutrients to maintain it. Weight loss will then come at a price of decreased health which is exactly opposite of what the desire for weight loss is intended to deliver. Eat sensibly – fruits in the AM & vegetable in the PM and avoid those empty calories in snack food and you will have lost weight the healthy way. Gordonii. Hoodia, pronounsed “Who Dee Ah”, is a succulent plant that grows throughout the semi-arid areas of Southern Africa primarily the Kalahari desert. The San people have traditionally used Hoodia stems to stave off hunger and thirst when on long journeys, as it acts as an appetite suppressant. The active ingredient of the Hoodia succulent cactus was identified by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in South Africa (CSIR), and patented. After careful research, scientists isolated several compounds in this all-natural food that was responsible for dramatic weight loss. P57, which has been widely reported, is but one of several chemical compounds found in the Hoodia succulent. Not only was it proven completely safe, it contains no stimulates that could contribute to the jittery feeling associated with weight loss products of the last decade.
Like most natural products there are variations from lot to lot in the raw materials. With the Hoodia Gordonii this is extremely critical as our analysis has show that some raw materials contain only a portion of the Hoodia Gordonii while others are harvested and processed from plant material grown outside of the region i.e. China, Mexico and the US to name some of the sources. This becomes critical in that ONLY Hoodia Gordonii grown & harvested from the Kalahari region enjoy the benefits touted by many across the globe. The Hoodia standard and products produced using this material are assured of the quality raw material that have proven to be effective. Materials meeting this standard are rigorously inspected and tested to insure their origin and species.
